There are over 200 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at the University of Queensland's St Lucia, Gatton, Ipswich and Herston campuses. Goorie Berrimpa Indigenous Students' Association
Goorie Berrimpa is the Indigenous Students' Association at the University of Queensland, and is a Department of the University of Queensland Union. Throughout the year, Goorie Berrimpa will be involved with a number of campaigns around issues effecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at UQ, and broader community. In particular, Goorie Berrimpa and the UQ Union organise major events to coincide with National Sorry Day, an annual event aimed at remembering the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed by the authorities from their families. National Sorry Day events, and other events organised by Goorie Berrimpa aim to promote harmony between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
