The Unit's research programme aims to help develop Indigenous research and scholarship in the University and the wider community. It does this by undertaking research controlled by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and publishing the results of research which is of interest to Indigenous Australians. By doing this as well as teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, the Unit is involved in the main business of the University, and can provide vital role models for Indigenous people in the higher education sector.

Unit staff are involved in a wide range of research covering education, Indigenous Knowledge, cultural heritage, ethnomusicology, archaeology and social anthropology. The links on the right provide more details about current projects being undertaken by Unit staff. We also undertake a limited amount of consulting in these areas.
